things i mentioned as well as addressing what the player should learn in each spot too
it’s been a massive (and obviously long) process but we are getting there!
ill ping joe to give me a detailed breakdown to share as well
until then, here’s a sample of our game dev doc that starts to lay things out so you can feel about more familiar with the game
it’s not in stone and joe and i are back and forth on a lot of the direction still
but, he’s working on what’s possible and im working on story within that
start text: video games have become the new currency of the world
monsters from video games are real and are an ongoing threat to people and cities everywhere
video games give their owners power
power is everything in this world
collect every game and obtain all the power
loop one: defeat monsters and complete quests to earn money
more games, gives player better collection score which unlocks cities and shops within cities
money buys weapons, lodgings and items
loop two: defeat monsters, earn xp
xp increases lead to level up opportunity
level up by training, pay for training by trading games
higher level unlocks cities and shops within cities
note: player cannot equip or purchase any healing potions
if a player dies in battle they lose items in their possession -random roll but includes weapons and games
player has a starting “house” where they can store equipment and games
always basic gear in starting house – wood sword and wood shield
two game shops in every town: retro city games (low level), and warp zone (high level)
city 1 goal: learn how to acquire games, store games, earn money, and level up
the bigger your collection, the better your place in society
those that have the most are often greedy and the greed has consumed them
there are even reports that the greediest folks with the biggest collection are borderline monstrous
-while one may be able to acquire every game, the condition of the game is also a factor to the kind of power they yield
the perfect collection is the ultimate and seemingly unobtainable goal
-ogres are everywhere outside of town
not safe to leave to check the games in other cities
-the higher your collection score the more access you’ll have to places in town
other game shops, other item and weapon shops
-lock your games up so you don’t drop them if you fall in battle
must defeat tougher ogre to save cat
player learns about location by talking to npcs
will realize that they must level up in order to take on boss
quest 2: give favorite game to kid with no money
chain quest where player must trade a few games with other people in order to get desired game to complete quest
primary game in question is in the entry shop but marked as trade only
owner of shop wants a specific game that’s located in another shop that requires a higher level to entre
in the higher-level shop, they can purchase the game that the low-level shop keeper wants, trade for the game the kid wants and complete the quest
quest 3: collect ten ogre blades for weapon shop keeper
defeat ogres, random chance at drop, one per battle
reward is a special sword that does extra damage against ogres
quest 4: find blacksmiths hammer
located in small cave outside of town
bring to armor shop owner – he tells you it’s in the cave
quest 5: collect 99 wild goose feathers for hotel owner
defeat wild geese and collect their feathers
hotel owner gives you free stay in first city
hey folks! feeing like a middle man here as i’m mainly passing along info that’s posted in other spots but would rather give you something than nothing!
on the nesmaker campaign, joe is filling folks in on their progress with new elements
a lot of which involve the rpg necessities
in his most recent update, joe talks about customizing the hud, health, npcs and more! take a read:

hey folks, so im finally glad i can share something legitimate with you for our long-overdue nes game, “gamer quest” that’s based on the documentary
of course we knew once nesmaker was successful on kickstarter that the updates would become a lot more frequent, but it’s still nice to have some-actual-thing to show!
below you’re going to see a quick 30 second montage put together by joe granato, our dev, that shows the title screen, some over world driving, some in-town searching, in-store exploring, and finally a rough battle scene
all this will function different but look and feel close to what you see — unless we run into major complications, which im told – but we wouldn’t be sharing if we didn’t feel good about what we’re sharing with you either
well, this video covers a large majority of the different states that you’ll see in the game
we showed you the inventory demo:
and we’ve also shown you, what it’s like to swap between the game states:
so all in all, this should really give you a nice top down view of the different elements of the game
we’re very excited and know this means we can build on each of these, and expand into the
