The Text Formatting Editor is an EditLive! for Java application for WebTycho.  The TFE contains composing and editing functions allowing for instantaneously posts of text, hyperlinks, tables and images to be uploaded to WebTycho. The benefit of using the TFE is having the ability to create eye pleasing web pages without knowing HTML. 

There are several ways one can learn the functionality of the TFE.  There are workshops held by CTL, TFE documentation in the DE Oracle and WebTycho or you can use the self-paced lessons listed below. The self-paced TFE lessons include showing you how to setup and enable the TFE, utilize plain text formatting features, inserting hyperlinks, creating tables and inserting images.

Starting with Lesson 2, the self-paced TFE lessons have two parts. First you will watch a demonstration of TFE features. The second part allows you to apply what you have learned by practicing the features.

To ensure everyone has access to the self-paced TFE lessons, we have created two formats. The first format is in Flash and the second format is in PDF. Only the Flash format, however, include a hands-on simulation. The TFE self-paced lessons are geared for faculty, staff who want to learn the features of the TFE.

Lesson 1- Setting up the TFE

This lesson discusses the advantages of using the TFE, ensuring your Java software is up to date, as well as how to enable the TFE.

Lesson 2 - Formatting Text

During the lesson you will learn the basic editing functionality of the TFE. The lesson will demonstrate how to bold, italic, underline plain text. As well as align, change the style, color and of text.

Lesson 3 - Inserting Hyperlinks

During this lesson you will learn how to create Hyperlinks using the TFE. The lesson will demonstrate how to create a hyperlink to an external web site as well as within the current document. The lesson will also demonstrate how to create a hyperlink to an email address.

Lesson 4 - Creating and Modifying Tables

During this lesson you will learn how to create create and modify tables using the TFE. Specifically, you will learn how to insert, merge & split rows and columns.  You will also learn how to change the border size, font, color & alignment of the cells and table properties.
