How to Record a Screencast Using Jing

This tutorial outlines the process for recording a screencast with Jing.

Video (click play button)

  1. Ensure that Jing has been launched. (NOTE: Look for the Sun Launcher at the top of the screen to determine if Jing is running.)


  2. Log into Jing. (NOTE: If you do not have an account, you will need to create one before you can proceed.)

  3. Open the Web page/program that you want to capture in your video.

  4. From the Sun Launcher, click the Capture button.
  5. Drag the crosshairs to the window/program you want to capture.


    NOTE: If you need to, you can resize the Jing capture window by selecting the corners or sides of the window and dragging them inward/outward.


  6. Click the Capture Video button to begin recording.


  7. After the three-second countdown, begin your demonstration and narration.

  8. When you have finished your demonstration, click the Stop button to end the recording.


  9. From the Jing preview window, click the Play button to review the recording.

  10. Once the preview has finished playing, click the Save button to save the recording.

  11. Give your recording a file name and save it to any location on your computer.


  12. Click the Save button.


  13. Jing will confirm the capture has been saved.


  14. You can now add the recording to your WebTycho classroom.
