This simulation illustrates variations in leachate flow rate and methane gas during the life of a landfill. (non-interactive HTML version)
Landfill managers must understand these variations in order to:
- properly remove leachate as it accumulates, thereby reducing the threat of groundwater contamination
- use methane gas to produce steam and generate electricity
Developed in 2002 for the course ENVM 649: Principles of Waste Management and Pollution Control
Produced by the UMUC Center for the Virtual University and Graduate School.
