- ILS Repurposes LibGuides to Improve Evaluation of Electronic Resources
Evaluating electronic resources at UMUC is a complex process that involves a wide range of resources and tools as well as numerous library staff and faculty. If not well managed, the annual review process of over 200 resources can become increasingly fragmented and inefficient. The library recently repurposed its existing LibGuides service to help manage this critical process, resulting in a Web site that organizes each aspect of the review process in an efficient, flexible, and easy-to-maintain manner.
- The Not-So-Distant Librarian
UMUC librarians led an Association of College and Research Libraries webcast, "The Not-So-Distant Librarian: Online Library Instruction to Engage Students and Faculty," during which participants learned how to translate their face-to-face library instruction into an online, asynchronous format, with an emphasis on engaging students through active-learning exercises and strengthening their critical thinking skills. The UMUC librarians also provided guidelines for effectively assessing an online library instruction program and fostering involvement by classroom faculty.

Starting this fall, the UMUC Library is excited to offer access to two major e-book collections that will greatly benefit students, faculty, and staff in computer and information technology-related disciplines, cybersecurity, digital media, business, and accounting and finance: Books24x7 and Safari Books Online.
