Finding Information on Countries
Often it is difficult to find information about market trends, industry growth, and the current economic situation of foreign countries, and other international topics. As discussed in September-October DE Oracle, the ILS Economic Intelligence Unit databases: EIU Viewswire and EIU Executive Briefings provide good, detailed information, but not always as much depth as you need. This spring ILS purchased a subscription to 10 Country Reports (EIU Country Reports database) that expand on the information in the first two databases.
In addition to the EIU databases, you and your students will find detailed country reports in Business Source Premier.
To retrieve a list of company reports in Business Source Premier:
- Go to the Library Databases and E-Journals page.
- Under Databases and E-Journals by Title, click on B and then on Business Source Premier
- Once you are in Business Source Premier click on the Publications tab at the top of the screen
- Enter the name of the country you are researching, select match any words, and then click on Browse:
You will retrieve country reports from EIU Viewswire (with a 6 month delay), Data Monitor, Global Insight, ICON Group International.
Updated Interlibrary Loan Information
This spring ILS staff revised and updated the interlibrary loan section of the ILS Web page to make the instructions for requesting and retrieving interlibrary loans easier to follow. There is also a new link "Access Requested Documents" that provides information on how to check on the status of your document and retrieve it after you have submitted an interlibrary loan request form.
Smart Search in ABI/Inform and Proquest Computing
If your students are having difficulty selecting or narrowing their business and management, computer science, or information systems topic, you may want to suggest that they try using the SmartSearch feature in ABI/Inform or Proquest Computing . In the basic search box in either database they can enter a broad topic and then click on Search. In addition to a results list that separates the articles they retrieve into scholarly, magazine, trade, and newspaper articles, they will obtain live links that suggest alternative, narrower topics. They can click on any of the suggested topics to retrieve links to narrow that topic. They will also retrieve a list of suggested publications that they can browse for information on their topic.
ILS Newsletter
Read the fall 2004 edition of the library newsletter for updates on ILS services and resources, some "hot" image Web sites to help you and your students find images for your presentations, updated information on e-reserves, and an annotated list of new acquisitions to the library's print collection.
