New Databases
Information and Library Services has recently added new databases that will considerably enhance your access to research in management, communications, and education.
EIU (Economist Intelligence Unit) Executive Briefing
Significant new database for international management and marketing, EIU Executive Briefing provides industry forecasts for 60 countries with five-year, country-by-country outlooks for eight key industries and analysis of critical issues, such as leadership, performance, innovation, and strategy faced by global executives. This database will help you and your students understand global industry trends, the business opportunities and challenges in 60 different countries, and the way existing technologies affect businesses in these countries.
Communication and Mass Media Complete
With citation coverage of several hundred resources and full text coverage of 200 titles, Communication and Mass Media Complete is a valuable new resource for quality research in areas related to communications and mass media. Search in this database for articles about all aspects of communications and mass media in business, management, education, marketing, and foreign countries.
Professional Development Collection
This comprehensive collection of educational journals, containing more than 500 full text journals and more than 800 citations and abstracts, is an important research resource for educational professionals. Links to full-text articles in other UMUC databases are provided through "find it." You and your students will find it useful for research in all areas of education, including distance education, adult education, educational administration, K - 12 education, and assessment.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
With more than 550 full text articles from 500 peer-reviewed journals, this database that focuses on emotional and behavioral characteristics and observational and experimental methods is a good resource for empirical studies and articles on the psychological aspects of education, including motivation, assessment, testing, and gender-based differentiation. All the full text publications are also indexed in PsycINFO.
Teacher Reference Center
This database, covering all aspects of education, contains citations and abstracts from more than 200 professional teacher and administrator journals with links to full-text articles in other UMUC databases through "find it."
Books in Print with Review ebrary -- A New Collection of E-Books
In addition to the 3,000 e-books in netLibrary, UMUC faculty, students, and staff now have browsing access to more than 10,000 online books in the ebrary collection in the Books in Print and Reviews database. The collection covers a wide range of subjects, including management, environmental management, health care administration, information technology, computer systems, education, and biotechnology. You can view the books online at no cost for up to two hours without timing out. If you want to print or copy pages of the books, there is a slight charge. Click here for instructions on how to access and view the ebrary books.
Citation Linker and Jake
There are now two resources on the Library Databases and E-Journals page to help you locate journals in the library databases: Citation Linker and Jake. Look in the left-hand frame for a link to both these resources. There is also a link to Citation Linker on the ILS Web page right under the login for the Library Databases and E-Journals page
Citation Linker
If you know the title of a journal and want to locate it full text in a library database, try the Citation Linker. Enter as much information as you know about what you are looking for in the appropriate boxes and then click the SFX button. If full text of the journal is in one of UMUC's subscription databases, you will retrieve a link to that database. If UMUC does not subscribe to the electronic version of that journal, you will receive a messagebe linked toan interlibrary loan form that will allow you to obtain a specific article from the journal.
Jake
Some of you may have used Jake in the past to help you locate journals. Jake (jointly administered knowledge environment) can help you to find out in which
database(s) a journal is available full text or is at least indexed, i.e. has citations and abstracts. Unlike Citation Linker, Jake does not provide direct links to UMUC's databases. After you identify a particular database from a Jake search, check the UMUC Library Databases and E-journals list to see if UMUC subscribes. Note: UMUC does not subscribe to all the databases listed in Jake.
Spring Library Newsletter
Read the spring edition of the library newsletter for updates on ILS services and resources, some "hot" management Web sites, news about workshops and tutorials, and an annotated list of new acquisitions to the library's print collection.
