Professor (Dr. Green)
Graduate school. Professor Green speaking.

Student (John H.)
Hi, Professor Green. This is Jon in your online class. Thanks for letting me call you about my grades. I'm getting pretty worried because the semester is almost over.

Professor (Dr. Green)
Sure. What seems to be the problem?

Student (John H.)
I didn't know any of my grades for our earlier assignments, because they weren't posted online. Thanks for answering my email the other day. It helped me that you gave me a list of my grades, but I really had no idea they were so low. Now all we have left is a short paper and the final.

Professor (Dr. Green)
Jon, I'm afraid your work has been borderline this semester. For some of the assignments, your work was even below acceptable standards. You can see this from the list I emailed.

Student (John H.)
I'm really surprised. I've had a very busy semester. I'm a single parent with two small children. Also, I had to take on more responsibility at work; so I've been putting in extra hours. However, I thought I was doing pretty well. I had no idea that my grades were so low.

Professor (Dr. Green)
I know what you mean. It's been a busy semester for me too. I've had to balance several obligations and I couldn't post the grades as I had hoped to.

Student (John H.)
Professor, I really need to pass this class. If I don't get at least a B in this class, my company will not reimburse my tuition. Is there anything extra I can do to improve my final grade?

Professor (Dr. Green)
Let me think about the options and I'll get back to you.

Student (John H.)
Professor, I'm looking at your email again; are you even sure these grades are accurate!?
