Online Writing Coaches Program Enhances Student Learning - July 9, 2010

Effective written communication is fundamental to professional and academic success, especially for adult learners. At UMUC there is wide variance in the writing skills of students. To facilitate student success, the Graduate School recently embedded Writing Coaches into several of its foundation courses. In this entirely online coaching program, writing coaches review student assignment drafts, engage students through general writing and specific assignment tips - in both traditional and multimedia (YouTube videos and podcasts) formats, and provide students with resources for use in other environments. This presentation will provide an overview of the program and an assessment of the program's effectiveness.
