Andrew Rein, Linda Smelser, Laddie Odom, and Floyd Csir from UMUC's Office of Instructional Services and Support demonstrated how Google Wave, an experimental Web 2.0 tool, has the potential for changing online communication, instruction, and learning.

Google Wave is a mashup of e-mail, instant messaging, and documents with both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration capabilities. Google Wave offers an open and extensible platform, including "gadgets" and "robots," which can enable polling and quizzing, games, collaborative maps, and more—including the ability to search within Waves. The presenters will demonstrate some of these features, show how educators are already using the tool, and discuss the pros and cons.
